Many toys for dogs are available. A good toy for dogs is made specifically for a dog to play with. Toys for dogs come in many different kinds:
- Bones can be real bones, that are cleaned to prevent any material that is unhealthy to be ingested by a dog. Chicken bones should never be given to dogs because they can splinter and cause damage to a dog’s digestive system that can be fatal. Hard rubber bones are also available.
- Balls that made of hard or moderately hard rubber, as well as rawhide and these toys are interesting to a dog because they allow a dog to play by chasing and carrying the ball inside their mouth.

- Training aids are more specialized and used to help with teaching a dog various commands. Some of these toys also can contain treats that a dog may have to work out how to get, such as puzzle toys as well as acting as a challenging toy for a dog.
- Squeaky toys are toys made of a material that allows a small plastic insert that causes air to move through the toy making noise after being squeezed or chewed by a dog.
- Frisbees are discs of hard plastic that can be thrown long distances for a dog to chase or to catch mid-air.
- Plush toys are toys that are made of hard material like rubber or plastic that is covered in soft material like plush fabric or smooth fabric and they can be made entirely of fabric and can be thrown for a dog to retrieve or used as a distraction toy for a dog to play with on its own.
- Sticks can be made of hard rubber or plastic, or even wood and are a favorite of dogs because of their simplicity.
